Captured Conversation:
Hubby and I are driving to my mum and sister’s for dinner. I chat away since I have hubby’s undivided attention while he drives.
Me: “I’m having so much fun with writing for SOL.”
Hubby: “Hmm.”
Me: I start reciting my poem - Smells
“Reaching over the marking table
feeling rather unstable
I smell something bad
Please, please don’t make me sad…”
Hubby: “Hmm.”
Me: “You should write a poem about your hunting trips. Have you been writing in your hunting journal?”
Hubby: “Yeah…but there’s not much to write about lately.”
Me: “Oh that’s right.”
Long pause of about 5 minutes. Hubby breaks out with...
Hubby: “I went hunting at Motiti
And the wife wants me to write a ditty
But all she is doing is making shitty”
Both of us: Broke out in a fit of laughter.
Me: “Well done dear that’s funny!”
Yes I think there might need to be a Slice of Life support group for partners. I liked the way your husband found his sense of humour and entered into the spirit of SOL
ReplyDeleteHe was a great sense of humour and I love sharing with him about what I'm writing.
DeleteThis is priceless! Obviously your husband has a great sense of humor and he has been paying attention to your travels with the SOL club.
ReplyDeleteWell to be honest he doesn't have a choice not to pay attention to my yarns about the SOL club.
DeleteWe really do need to think about a SOL support group for spouses. As I sat reading on my tablet last night, my husband asked, "What are you slicing about now?"....I had to prove I was not slicing at that moment!
ReplyDeleteSOL support club for spouse would be a great idea.
DeleteI like the idea of a support group. My husband asked me last night - So what are you going to write about next. I feel so lucky to have his support.
ReplyDeleteThe support is great and my husband seems to enjoy my silly poems I write.
DeleteI love this! I can so picture him saying "Hmmm...". It surprised me when he came up with a poem, because in my experience, when the guy says "Hmmm..." he's not really listening. You've found a good one-- a listener and jokester! Good onya! :)

I was quite surprised as well...I had no idea that he was going to come up with his little ditty.
DeleteWhat a clever fellow you've got! His poem is causing laughter all around the world today.
ReplyDeleteHe can be quite clever and always manages to make me laugh.
DeleteI just love that your hubby has a hunting journal! The men in my family would only have one if I gave them one, and they would definitely all be empty! haha...
ReplyDeleteActually, I noticed that he had found a scrap of paper and he was writing down the details of a mishap while hunting. So I decided to get him a journal. When I gave it to him he said, "Cool." He has a few entries but I haven't read them yet.
DeleteMaybe your husband should write a few limericks for a guest post!
ReplyDeleteNow that would be funny...I'll mention to him.
DeleteYes, my husband is about that interested whenI talk about my slices, too. At least you got a poem out of him.
ReplyDeleteA poem and a laugh...not bad.
Deletegotta love a man with a sense of humor!
ReplyDeleteSure do.
DeleteI enjoyed the flow of this dialogue. The poem was a surprise. I was thinking that you were going to be the one to break the 5 minute silence. What a fun conversation to capture!
ReplyDeleteThank you. It was surprise to me as well. I've probably missed a lot of these types of moments but because of the SOL I've been able to keep these little memories.
DeleteI like when you share your car conversations with your "Hubby." I can totally picture it! He is funny! I like the "Hmmm" responses.
ReplyDeleteThank you. I have him trapped so even if it is his hmmm response he has to enter into a conversation.
DeleteWhat a perfect illustration of how fun it is to play with words, just play. Our students need to experience that sense of play and fun. Who really cares what they produce? "The play's the thing!"
ReplyDeleteSweet slice! :)
You're right. Allowing our students to have fun and play with words without worrying about what they produce.
